Hi, I recently purchased this engine, It's a marine gamma type, not working at the moment, It seems an unusual design, does anyone have any thoughts, or ideas on how old it is? obviously scratch built

That is quite the little contraption. Does it rotate freely? I wonder also if it is still in time after all these years.

How do you know it's not working? Have you tried applying some heat?
It looks potentially operational, with a bit of cleaning up perhaps.
How big is this thing? Can you post a photo with something for size comparison?
If that is burlap under it, I'm guessing it's a model engine, maybe 6 inches long. What makes it "Marine"?

I bought it on ebay, I should receive it tomorrow, and have a proper look, at the moment I'm relying on photos from the seller, it was listed as seized, but i don't know as yet how badly, it's 18cm long, so you are pretty much spot on with your guess, I've been told it's a marine engine, but it easily could be different.

Could be from a model boat. Similar to this:

Not exactly the same but quite similar.

Thanks for taking the time to find some relevant information, it is really interesting, hopefully it won't be too long before I can get my engine running.
I really appreciate your effort and I'll keep you updated as to how I get on, if that's okay with you.

Of course!
Probably a good squirt of WD40 might loosen it up.
