Stirling Generators
What is the feasibility of a Stirling generator for electricity? How efficient are they? Could one power a computer or tablet?

Re: Stirling Generators
By the way, I am talking about a relatively small one (a two cylinder tomato can design powered by a large fire).

Re: Stirling Generators
not soup cans, but here is a 10W Stirling engine built from a SS water bottle.
you should get close to 8W out of a generator/alternator

Re: Stirling Generators
Do you want enough power to run a computer, or just enough to be able to charge a device - there's a massive difference between the two figures.
Re: Stirling Generators
For a low tech Stirling Engine charging system, no great problem. To run a computer you need a stable power supply with a bit of reserve.

Re: Stirling Generators
I would be thinking of a computer, but in retrospect it looks too difficult to power. Perhaps an iPad and Router. Maybe even a well to drill for water.
Re: Stirling Generators
They go well running a radio. This little motor has a bore of 5/8", and a stroke of 3/4"
