stirling engines and education

STIRLING ENGINES EDUCATION.
The historical event that Diesel cycle and Otto cycle, between others like Brayton, meanwhile Stirling Engines, external Combustion in almost 200 years is still fighting to take off, call our attention in the perspectie of the last 50 years only.In next posts we want to comment a survey
on main voids, missing root causes, that may contribute, to integrate groups of all kinds, forming work groups, and with the shower of ideas, converge to the victory to make it feasible technically and economically.
This issue struggle with EDUCATION around the world, some countries are under Abbet,
so the name of the title is equal anywhere within acreditation, in Chile, the Counceil of Chairmans, decded tha each University acredits itself.Fanny.The cross tecnique applied in USA between Universities is tough, and a guarantee of equivalence for same title coming from any Acredited ABBET University.
ABBET in my oppinion must cross all america, is time to integrate all.
I have been as part time Professor in a Chilean University, mainly dedicated with the
support of ASME and SAE,and kind tutorial of UNLV, and its chairman distinguished expert in FEA Mr. Darrell Pepper. My proposal,it was to introduce in the curricular mesh of subjects, the methdology of Finite Elements, excludin Soil Mechanics and Rock Mechanics.
The course considered first semester Mathematical Fundamentals, numerical analysis ,and all the Vectorial and Tensorial ecuations derivation to reach stress state, displacements, boundary condtions and so on,Guide text Method of Finite elements of Desai and Abel,Cornell Univ. a clasic everywhere, and a list of other authors.
When I started this trial,or intend to,I discovered that Theoretical Mechanics ,Continuum Mechanics also, that languages of calculations sons of Fortran, have been eliminated,
Science of materials off,no particular subject, like strength of materials, were partially studied during the semester.
Conclusion.Teaching in Private hands is a profitable activity, the problem is that the students reclaim the title because they pay expensive fees monthly.I in the past studied under the state support, the professors have no dependence of students, they taught. In mechanical engineering in first year we were 200 students, after 7 years, only 3 we got the Mastery.
In these golden years during the first 4 years we had Machine Tools practices,Heat treatmens,Forging,Casting, welding,at tha level of a layman, every year you did not pass
if Mechanical Practices were not aproved with a free application obliged to function.
Metrology, micrometry, the time I became a Chief Engineer,I was a Master in Diesel and Gas engines, I welded in acethylene flame and in Electrrodes sticks,my authority was never discussed,I was respected all my life.
But the times have changed and Composites are not in Mech.Shops,my University sold every Tool Machine, Furnaces, and hand tools. What future can Chile expect sustaining
a detrimental status, 5 years before enter the university existed Technical schools for
puils 11 years old to 17 years old, with that age they were my best laymans or technicians, and to day they became succesfull professionals.
I would like to invite colleages and not colleages, everybody, to express their oppinions
on its particular realities.
To finish the modern university sepparated Mech Engr carreer in 2, Solids, and thermofluid.
This is a disaster, I did studied al disciplines.More money for thid bussiness.
Up to date, my University has no capacity to teach PhD level. Its a Shame,The number of advanced students to apply the PhD in USA,first problem is the language, second the funds.
EDUCATION IS THE MAIN COLUMN OF PROGRESS.autocad WAS TAUGHT BY MY OWN INITIATIVE.WE CAN UNDERSTAND THAT CHILE HAS NO OTHER OPTION THAN SELLING COMMODITIES,JUST COPPER, MY OPINION TELL YOU WHY MANUFACTURING DOES NOT EXIST
IN MY COUNTRY.PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT SIMILARITIES DO WE HAVE,AND WHAT YOU SEE RELATED TO S.E. CYCLE. BEST REGARDS TO YOU,THANKYOU TO THE FORUM.

There are one or two teachers who contribute to this forum, who use the Stirling Engine in their teaching, one is Chriske who teaches 14 to 18 year olds in a Technical School at Duffel in Belgium, look him up in the members section.
The loss of practical engineering education seems to be world wide, if this keeps spreading, we'll be living in caves, and hunting animals for food, and eating fruit from the jungle. Ian S C

I think the main hope to improve education in engineering skills is to get someone of vision into Government, and make the country believe that rather that just produce raw materials (in your case Copper), or in the my country Dairy, and meat, also iron ore, and timber in log form. One small product is the Whisper Gen domestic generator. Ian S C

Now they have started rebuilding them with their own modifications. None the less, I think the unit looks nostalgically beautiful from the photos, and wish the company the very best of luck. If it doesn’t fit my applications, it will look nice next to my wife’s gasoline pumps…

Most people know very rarely about the Stirling Engine, so the information you have shared here about the Stirling Engine has very high significance to the students. I would like to thank you for your attempt to describe about the Stirling Engine and educating the same with all of us.
