I am new to the forum and stirling engines in general (just saw the first one on wednesday). I have seen the heater or wood stove fans that sit on the hot surface and run advertised for around $300. I would like to build something similar to this. My surface temp is around 250 degrees F (I guess since it will boil water vigerously when hot). Are there any designs that would be better than others? I think the engines are awesome but I would like to put one to work for me
thanks,
joe
P.S. I guess it will have to be built of all metal parts since the whole thing will be getting somewhat hot.

Hi Jhead,
http://www.jerry-howell.com
has some beautiful plans and kits available. I have never personally built any of them, but I think that they are some of the nicest looking Stirling engines available at the scale you are considering. You may need to have access to a lathe in order to build them.
