Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine
Trev, perhaps MEW is the one you need, it gives a bit of how to do it, rather than building models. The web site covers just about every thing. Have a look in and see what you think. Some times there are some who get a bit upset, but you just need to be a bit thick skinned in those times, I think it happens in a lot of sites.
I like you motor, the only problem I would have with the parallel cylinder GAMMA motor is, there is no where to put pulleys on it to drive for example a generator. Yes you could fit a pulley next to the flywheel, but you need a joint in the belt, and you would have to pull the motor apart if you wanted to change the size.

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine
Hi Ian & Thanh - Thanks for that info Ian. I do some times use a pulley between the bearing mounts as well. IN this case I use home made belting or the Polyurethane weld type. One of the best belts I have made for pulleys especially flat belt types is cloth tape or more rightly known as Gaffa Tape. I will also check out MEW as you suggest. Thanks Guys - Trev

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine
Hi Trevor !! I want to see both of them .
Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine
Hi Than - Can't take a photo of the beam engine just yet as the radiator (believe it or not - due to Christmas holidays) has yet not arrived.
The pictures are of the diaphragm Gamma engine and another that I have made with a 2"piston.
I have used a air operated water pump on that one as well. Pictures coming up ---

Re: Sterling Diaphragm Engine
It will never work again!(LOL) Sometimes after they have been stripped and painted they take a bit of resetting up, that's why my motors generally stay unpainted (I don't like painting). Looks great as is.

Yeah! Yeah! (heehee). This one will work (I think) as I pulled the other one to pieces many times and seemed to work better each time. Er! Anyway II have already pulled it apart - oops!
Ian I just bought these bearing for mounting against wooden or steel blocks and are self aligning, but at $2.00 a throw delivered, they must be pretty crap. Soon find out in in a few weeks though - I will let you know ( here's the link).
