Platinum in form of catalyst (sponge), (as all heavy metals in form that can be dispersed), is toxic, and a bit expensive.

Also it(platinum) does not work too well, its been tried by Whispertec when they were developing the Whispergen power unit. Stainless steel is much more effective, either foil, wire, or gauze.
