Hi everyone, my name is Blythe and I live a ferry ride from Seattle. I am new to this forum and figured I would introduce myself. I built my first Stirling about 5 years ago, and love to tinker in my shop every night to see what I can build. I have made around 12 stirlings so far, and am currently building my first walking beam engine. I recently bought a metal lathe to aid with my builds, and love watching the many YouTube videos out there, myfordboy in particular. Thank you for letting me join this forum :)

Hello, just joined this forum. I'm an former school science technician and self-employed ex-motor mechanic specialising in Citroen/Peugeot cars and light commercial vehicles. The 'Job from Hell' made me an ex-mechanic (Citroen Xantia TD engine job) by obliterating a few disc in my lower back.

I have a life-long interest in motorcycles, model aircraft, electronics, cars and any sort of engine. My Dad passed away three years ago and he left me lots of workshop tools that I aim to use for as many projects as my wife will allow

I also live for eBay and have a large collection of 'Bargains' such as: A nearly new Unimat 3 Lathe/Milling machine (£23: it was badly listed), endless model aircraft engines and loads of other goodies.

Just thought I'd share the following that I've just spotted on eBay UK: 272033847517 (just copy and paste in 'Search' it's the James Rizzo book on Stirling and Hot Air Engines. I've bought lots from this seller before and her service is second-to-none. Only problem is that her listings are so long that there's only a drip-feed of books, but they're amost always hard to find stuff and her description of condition is always honest.

Donald, welcome, you'll do ok if go along with J. G. Rizzo, my first book was "Modelling Stirling and Hot Air Engines", then I got Vol1 "The Stirling Engine Manual" these two books are very similar, the one I would like is "The Stirling Engine Manual" Vol 2, this one is a little more advanced.
What a bargain, 23 UK Pounds for a lathe, you could put up with anything that's wrong with that.

Hello Ian, thanks for your reply. it was listed simply as 'modelling' in the antiquarian books section with just one very out of focus photo. So I bid £100 as a gamble: there was only one other bidder. I had to do a 180mile round trip as it was collection only. I told the seller exactly what it was and told him he could pull out of the deal. However, he told me it was a house-clearance and was happy with the deal. So was I...

Hi all, I'm new and looking to build a few stirling engines over the winter to prepare my crafting abilities for when I am able to use a more advanced workshop at university next year. I'll probably have quite a few questions as I am unfamiliar with a lot of this stuff, but will hopefully be able to return that favor with some videos of the engines functioning (and we all love to watch those type of videos, no? ).

Hello all,
I have built an alpha Stirling engine in the past that didn't run. But the perfection of air tight seal I obtained alone made me happy as I didn't expect to get it right. I intend to build a big Stirling engine in the future but my onus is on efficiency. I am under the impression that I know the engine very intimately theoretically as I have published some research. I use help to get stuff manufactured which isn't a big deal since such services are very cheap where I live. I wish to see a high efficiency Stirling engine in the future so Solar Stirling could become feasible. Also I have some ideas and want to go ahead of the standard plans.

Hi just joined the forum , ive been making hot air , flamelicker and even the odd IC engine for about 10 yrs now , in my working life (now retired) i was a precision engineer for 25 yrs so even though the machining side of making these engines is no problem it took me a while to get my head around how they work and all the different mechanisms and types ,but having done 7 good runners so far hopefully i can help others on here and also learn new stuff myself , when youve been a machinist for years its easy to think you know it all but i learn new stuff all the time from the various modelling forums ive joined.

retired about 3 years ago, never looked back. have built 3 Stirling engines so far inc. 1 LTD Stirling,1 marble Stirling plus 1 Gamma Stirling.
