Re: Design dimension for stirling engine...Need help!
Hi Ian, really sorry for the late late reply..did not realized until now...basically I have done my beta stirling fabrication...however the engine is not working. I suspect that it is because my solar collector is not able to focus the sunlight to the hot cap. Besides, I also feel that my power piston is too heavy that my flywheel is not able to produce enough momentum to the engine. I will upload some photos of my engine here and I need some advise from you to get my engine on track.

The cranks and crank pins are connected to each other by threads...However this is not a good method as it will be loosen up when I turn the flywheel...

Another thing about the design of engines in general, but using this one as an example, try and place the main bearings as close to the crank cheeks as possible, this reduces flexing of the crankshaft. I use split bearings for the big ends, so that they may be assembled/disassembled.
I try the motor by putting the reflector directly on the crankcase, and have the cooling fins on top of the reflector, it won't be the first engine built that way, you'll just have to adjust it so that the focal point is in the right place.
