Animated Stirling Engine... 'gifs'

Post by vamoose »

Have put together a collection of Stirling engine and related 'gifs' from around the internet that some people may find interesting.
A few of them are a bit 'out there' though.. Image

Vamoose, go to 11 down, a V type GAMA motor, for some reason they have it with two crankpins 180* apart, where as it should have only one crankpin. On the whole, some good diagrams. Ian S C

Yeah, its kinematic connection is a bit different to standard.
It would cause it to run in the opposite rotation to an 'otherwise' identical engine with 'one' crankpin.
It would also allow the engine to run in a more balanced fashion (require less counterbalance) with the rotational force and weight distribution located in this manner,I'm not sure but maybe they did it for this reason.

Nice collection!

I know a few other ones, i'm almost sure you must have seen them, but i just add them here.
It don't seem you can copy them, so here are just the links.

Alpha type
Beta type (same as # 2, but i thought it was their gif?)

Good links Triangle.Stirling,
The Animated Engines site is one of the best around for visualisation of engine processes. Anyone into any kind of engine should visit it.
My hat off to the creator of the site. It was one of the places (including this forum) that got me hooked into these engines. I still visit it from time to time to play with the animations.

Here are a few more gif's...

One for the Steam Punks...
Not directly related to Stirling engines, but the over 2000 year old Aeolipile (a form of steam turbine) was one of the first mentioned heat engines in 'Known' recorded history.
Hmmm.. when would the industrial revolution have occurred, if the Ancient Greeks had further investigated this technology Image

These animations are great, but if I'm not mistaken the one of the stirling fan is running in the wrong direction, i.e., the power piston is leading the displacer which would not be possible unless it were powered to become a cooler.
