"Precer" wood pellet powered Stirling, 'Off Road' Car

Post by vamoose »

Don't think miles per gallon, think km's per kg..

Has anyone heard anything more about the Swedish wood pellet powered Stirling engine, Precer car?
And have they actually gone into production. Also has anyone ever seen one running, in video or 'in real life'.

Here are some relevant links for interests sake..

FWIW, a couple of weeks ago, after viewing this post, I sent the company a short e-mail asking them if they had any plans to make either their modified PGO Bug Racer 500i available, or market a conversion kit for the Bug Racer 500i. No reply has since been received. Too bad!

Maybe it was a flash in the pan.. Wood pellets seem to be a pretty impractical fuel source for a (lets go for a drive now) Stirling powered vehicle. Still, I'd like to see the engine setup in closer detail.

I'd like to have one. Most things that will burn pellets will also burn corn kernels and possibly wood chips. It was probably a one of a kind proof of concept and not meant to be a practical vehicle.

The stirling engine in this car was actually a "whispergen" converted from diesel to run on wood pellets. You can't see the actual engine, but the whispergen control panel is visible on the dashboard. Given that the DC Whispergen is no longer in production, there is little chance there will be another "Precer" car like this one, unless they can find another suitable stirling engine......

Thats and interesting application for the Whispergen, I wonder if they might have purchased the rights to the engine, and perhaps looking into manufacturing even it. Sadly, from what I've seen, most Stirling engines are novelty toys, while at the other end of the scale there are units priced out of reach of most home experimenters. Someday I hope there will be some affordable models in the 1 to 20 KW+ range.

I don't think you'll find anything to do with Whispergen on that car. Ian S C

Those control panels do look suspiciously identical!!

I wonder if whispergen are willingly involved or not. I cant find any supporting literature on the internet re- the subject.

There would be nothing to stop Precer buying a Whispergen off-gridd DC Generator unit outright, and then converting it and installing it into their vehicles.

If anyone knows of any supporting articles regarding the Precer engine configuration, i'd love to see it (whatever it says)

I think those pannels are available , not sure where they are made(?China). Whisper Tech used to mostly buy in stuff, rather than build. Ian S C

Have a look at YouTube to see a video of one running.... search for "DC Whispergen". I'll try to upload better quality.
Vamoose is spot on, they bought it and converted to what they needed. It's just a one-off project.
You can find a few more Whispergen clues in the screenshots at the end of the video.

So did some quick searches of the Whisper Tech (DC Whispergen) engine on youtube and cant find any consolidating proof of its use in the Precer car (although I think its possible)..
(i might need an upgrade of my spectacles)
still-
here are some whispergen videos..(of which there are many)

some real Precer/Whisper Tech evidence would be very interesting to see..
(if one was able to provide a video link with specific time locations of visual evidence, then all would be resolved)
