Video of the Philips Stirling Bus and Boat, a Stirling powered car and also footage inside the Kockums Stirling engine submarine, and also solar Stirling stuff.

Its a "Cleanergy" video from a Swedish television segment about Stirling technology
Its not in English but has some awesome new and 'old school' footage

That's cool.
They were getting ready to put Kockums stirling engines in the Australian Collins class submarines when I worked at the boatyard where they were built. I think they were supposed to run partially on liquid oxygen that cooled the cold end as it was expanded into a gas.
I never knew until this video that Kockums took over the patents etc from the Phillips engine. No wonder they look so similar!

Hopper, I don't know about the LOX cooling the cold end, the main reason for it is to burn the diesel used to heat the hot end, on the Gotland subs, it gives them about 3 weeks under water.
One of the Swedish boats was on loan(?) ot the US, I think they are looking at a cheaper replacement for their nuclear subs. Ian S C

Ian, the LOX cooling is just what I remember from lunchroom talk (Loose lips sink ships!) at the boatyard. As the govt pulled funding for the Stirling part of the project we never got to see them in the flesh.

Hey Coco Mbella,

Hadn't seen that last video before. Nice to see a little more footage of the Stirling bus.
I'm thinking it might be worth trying to contact Philips and ask if they have any Stirling footage that they are willing to share or put up on Youtube, maybe NASA and others too!?

I will have to put that on my very long 'To Do' list.

The Sunpulse engine is a really interesting design. I've searched on the net at different times to try and find more detailed design information, but with limited sucess so far. They claim it can produce up to 2kw continuous output which is really impressive for a LTD Stirling engine, and when you see it running, it's looks very possible.
