What is your opinion of a displacer for a gamma engine constructed from aluminum discs .042" thick x 3" dia with spacer washers of about .010" thickness between each. The discs would have some holes in them for air flow. These would be assembled on a rod connected to the displacer linkage.

I will work, but with some disadvantage. A solid or sealed displacer piston does not introduce as much dead space as a wafer design. However your idea may provide some regenerator functionality, which would be a trade off.

Jon, just don't expect to use it at high temperatures, the aluminium will go into meltdown, my sugestion would be to make the hot 1/3 to 1/2 out of stainless steel, you then will be able to run the displacer to red heat and get some power out of the motor. Ian S C

Gamma kind engines have a displacer and energy piston, similar to Beta machines, however in different cylinders. This allows a practical finish break up between the warm exchangers associated with the displacer cylinder and the pressure and expansion work space associated with the piston.
