Domain expiration
Re: Domain expiration
The new settings I applied to the stirlingenginebuilders forum seem to be working pretty well.
I've been receiving spam emails to the admin email address every so often, but so far, only one spam post has appeared in the "introductions" forum.

Re: Domain expiration
Unfortunately, the Trolling and spam continues unabated here, as seen above.
Re: Domain expiration
Hey Tom, excuse the ignorance, but does the domain expiration mean the current site goes away, or just that posting ability stops? It'd be a shame if the old content disappeared. Anyway, if you have the ability and gumption to make a new spot, I'll sure stop by to check it out. I don't know anything about building a forum, but here's my two cents about the ambiance: This thread's derailments are a sad example of what's always been a problem here, even before getting swamped in spam. The ability to have some control of your own threads might help keep things on track and reduce the need for top-down moderation. I'd also put a must-read at the top that would ONLY cover the perfect gas law, (and air is perfect enough) and absolute temperature, then vet registration with a few elementary-level questions derived from that.
The Smokstak hot air engine forum has some interesting content. Be sure to check out the "almost flying machine" that's currently on their first page. But it's mostly modelers and antiques folks, and less about the actual reasons these things work so as to engineer them for individual wants/possibilities. Maybe that's for the best, but I've received a few inspirations on this forum from folks airing out their ideas.

Re: Domain expiration
I think, in this case, everything disappears. I checked the domain status again and it looks like the expiration is now set for the end of January.
It may be that the site payments are set for automatic renewal on a monthly basis, or someone? made a payment, or possibly I was mistaken previously, but I don't think I would post January 1st without being sure of the date and double checking..
Anyway, a little additional time at least.
I think it should be possible to sign up and begin posting. I did change the settings recently to require administrator verification as the bot spam already started. In theory that should block most of it, but makes registering a little more involved. It'd be a shame if the old content disappeared. Anyway, if you have the ability and gumption to make a new spot, I'll sure stop by to check it out.

I love this forum but the uni-forum - single topic layout with no sub-forums or categories was always a little problematic and limiting forcing everybody to "live" together in one room. I'm in favor of a wider variety of category and topic areas.
I'm still hoping this place will recover somehow someday, but if and when it does disappear, there is at least a lifeboat.
But many of my YouTube videos are linked to discussions on this forum and vice-versa, having to repair all those broken links on my YouTube channel is not something I'm looking forward to unless absolutely necessary.

That forum has been non-functioning for years other than for reading. Also the associated domain is for sale.Fool wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:23 am .

Re: Domain expiration
The late owner of this site and I got along fine and were in agreement as far as the purpose, direction and content of the forum. I offered to start my own forum to save this place from the likes of TROLLS like you, with an Ax to grind against me.Fool wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 7:00 am ...
If this website vanishes on the first of 2025, it will be a well deserved goodbye....
... the owner.... Anyone enabling you deserves what they get.

No I'm not going to join that one either. But it was apparently moderated much more scientifically. ...
He said he was fine with me and had no problem with my posting my experiments here, he did however have a definite problem with you "fool" and had you in his radar slated for banning due to your trolling activities and not any urging from me, and I have the DM's to prove it.
Regardless what you or anyone else might think of me, you were and are at odds with the late owner and his wishes as far as content on this forum.
That you would speak about him and his site in such a manner as you have above is truly disgusting
Characterizing your garbage you post in here as "classical science" is being kind. All you post is nonsense and lies.
Re: Domain expiration

You have proven to be immature. If there is any truth in what you say it is because the original owner is just as clueless about thermodynamics as you. He made no attempt to rectify anything I've posted, nor learn about those processes, mathematics, and science. Maybe he got the idea that you really are the problem and was allowing myself and others to correct your erroneous, libelous, ignorant style here. Perhaps you will learn why, he needed to do that, on your own site, if you continue your logical dissonance.
I don't think you will have an open, fair, and mature site. Pack your own site with lies, vituperation, and childish soapboxing. See how far that gets you. It is you that has been banned from valid scientific websites. I have not. That sums up the fact that you are the bigger liar here. Good luck on your own website.
I've noticed that you have zero posts on your own site. Good luck getting anymore. I wish it and you well and far away from me.

Re: Domain expiration
I have no desire to abandon this site, especially to the likes of you.
My hope would be some Boyd family member or other designated responsible party will show up and clean up the spam and useless off-topic banter.
There is over a decade of collective investment put into this forum. As I said, the new forum is there as a "life raft" if and when this forum goes down and it is not so much for me. Some Stirling engine forum should exist somewhere just on principle.
Personally I'm content with my "workbench" over on Mooker.
Re: Domain expiration

You fit the clientele over at Mooker way better than here. Bringing free energy scams to this site is poor form at best. I don't fit into Mooked, so don't have any desire to be there. Maybe one day they will learn real science there, but it will probably take 200 years, as it took the rest of science.
Your and my discussion have livened this site up and encouraged people to join. Your banter, vituperation, and attacks, have pushed people away.
If I were to moderate this forum I would warn you to stop cursing and attacking people rather than their logic. Be more patient. You are the senior member. Start acting that way. I don't have any desire to be rid of you. It would be very boring here without you. Of course it would be less entertaining here if you learned real science and started using it.
When you are calm you are an enjoyable benefit to this site. When you disagree with someone you become caustic and nasty. You should have no fear of being ridiculed, you are a senior member. Respect towards you should be maintained even when you are wrong. Senior members should also know the value of respecting the new members, even when they are wrong. As a senior member you should show respect and comprehensive knowledge of theory and scientists that came before you. They are just fitting in the data as it comes up into current theories. New data, try to fit it in first, if not then try supplying a new theory. Hint theories are mathematics.
I'm sorry that I've been disrespectful. I tend to reflect the style I receive. Treat me with respect, politely warn me when I'm rude, and I'll treat you any others the same. The law of respect.
P.S., I don't want to be the moderator, owner, of this site, otherwise I would have already found a way to have done it. Not that hard.

Re: Domain expiration
The late forum owner informed me via PM about how you bragged that if he banned you you would be able to get right back in.
Bragging about your hacker skills did not win you any sympathy with him and certainly won't with me.

You can't shut down the Internet without disrespecting a lot of good people. I don't think that sounds like me. Sorry. It's another one of your lies
Quit talking for the late owner. It seems to be your forte, lying that is, about what long dead greats have said.

Re: Domain expiration
Did you get on top of this?
Or are the lights about to go out?
The thread appears to descend into bickering about ephemera and I didn't fancy wading through it.
