Why is all this spam posts still here?

Post by Spacefog_ »

I like this forum, but for a long time it's been inundated with spam. Despite reporting several of them a long time ago, nothing happens. Does anyone know if the admin/owner is still alive or what's going on here, what is the problem? :question)

Personally, I think it may be because the forum owner was being taken to court or sued or something by someone who was banned. Some new ridiculous anti-censorship nonsense, where you can't moderate your own platform.

Are you an editor or not?

So, to keep the forum going, he can no longer moderate. Not even "spam", because of some piece of shit troll trying to sue him.

Too bad he has been targeted in such a way.

I don't know this for certain, but from the PM's he sent me, it may have been that or get sued by some crackpot, or more likely some group or body. He said it appeared there were multiple actors trying to hack the forum.

Whoever it is, he or they specifically wanted me censured or banned as well apparently while not wanting to be moderated themselves.

He (the owner) said he would not practice censorship of the forum, that this person was banned for being rude and disrespectful to HIM in PM not for any posts. He refused to abide by forum rules.

So my guess is, to keep the forum going, and refusing to censor anyone as was being demanded of him, he has no choice but to take a hands off approach and not moderate the forum at all.

Either that or shut down the forum. He said he would not censor opinions on the forum but would shut it down if he had to before he would do that.

I don't buy that. Every editor in the country would be banned from deciding what is in their own paper or website. Besides this is a privately owned website. It runs from the rules of the owner and editor. That being the case, they aren't responsible for what isn't on their board, they are responsible for what is on it. That gives them the right to ban anything that they find objectionable and or fraudulent. Their opinion counts because they are enabling what is said, and protecting their own tail. That is why certain politicians and other dark posters have been banned from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and many other websites, in the past. Editors have the right to protect their own website.

If the posts are true, or obviously benign opinion, the website and speech is free from government prosecution and other legal matters. It becomes a problem when posts are damaging, done for personal gain and are known lies. "Known" is the qualifier. That occurs when the editor knows it.

The editor has the right to ban for any reason he sees fit. He is required to ban for any known damaging fraudulent postings. The grey area is offensive posting material or style, such as cursing and name calling. If posting in a public forum where children can observe, the child protective laws kick in. That is why most websites ban profanity and name calling. Banter is also often limited for that and other reasons.

On top of all that, the editor, and or owner, and or hosting company, can ban anything they want. It's their site.

I don't buy lack of banning because a site might be sued for banning someone. Every editor gets to choose their content.

Ask a lawyer if you'd like. I'm sure there are many more editorial and public protection laws out there. Yes this is my opinion and I think it is true.

As far as I'm concerned, "fool" you', whoever you may be are my top suspect behind whatever is going on.

You seem quite well versed in the legal ins and outs of what you can and cannot sue for.

You were also the owners prime suspect for the hacking, threatened lawsuits and use of multiple cloaked IP addresses, alternate sock puppet personalities etc.

I could post much of what he told me about, or suspected about you, specifically, but I'll limit it to a portion of his last post before he suddenly "disappeared".

So, you, specifically were in his radar.

Of course, now, immediately after he stated he was going to talk to you about your stalking, harassment and misrepresentations and general attacks on me, I'm not able to report your slander and lies, how convenient for you.

So that last PM was May 11.

The earliest unmoderated spam I can find is just a few days later, May 15th

It still doesn't explain his disappearance. I figured you were communicating with the owner.

The last PM from May 11th above is the last I've heard from him.

I asked for some clarifications on what exactly he wanted me to report, but he never responded after that.

If some troll with money to burn actually went through with some kind of legal action, my guess is he (the forum owner) may be under some injunction preventing him from doing anything on the website until the case is settled.

Or maybe he's just tired of trying to moderate and referee all the BS that goes on here and put the site on "autopilot" and gave himself a vacation.

I just found this.

https://www.m14forum.com/threads/anyone ... um.544201/

I don't suppose there could be another Darryl Boyd who owns several forums who happened to "disappear" last May.
...earlier this year in May one of the owners, Darryl Boyd, who was the one that handled the IT side of the forum passed away unexpectedly. He was the only one who knew the back end and handled the forum hosting. The site's been on borrowed time ever since while the other owner and and admins. tried to figure out a solution. Once the forums hosting period expired there was no way to renew it since no one knew how. They contacted the owner's son to see if he left instructions about what to do in case this happened but after a response telling them to let them know if they needed anything they never heard back from him. It was a huge shock because though he was having some slight health issues that were being addressed he passed away sitting in front of his doctors on a visit one day
