These engines require almost no friction to run. I have a few models that use a diaphragm to run.
There's printable templates for this one in the PDF section if you're interested :

Re: looking for some advice on 1st engine
So far as I can tell it looks as though the hole where the displacer rod enters the can is much to big. Is there any kind of bushing around the displacer rod ? I can't see one in the video, although it isn't perfectly clear. As well as that, there's no bendable linkage between the displacer rod and ...

Re: Building a Low Power Stirling Generator
I managed around 2 watts from this machine without a lathe or machine tools.
I think with better construction (lighter parts (esp displacer), better balancing and
a better generator 5 watts might be possible. It won't be easy though.

My plans have all of the dimensions on them. If there's one missing, let me know and I'll add it.

Re: Sterling(beta) refuses to work at all after 7 builds.. H
Have seen your photos, I would say it's probably that rubber seal that's letting you down. Is that blue piece of rubber made from balloon or something similar ? Try using a piece of inner tube, or even better making a tiny hole using a sewing needle (those cans are probably too thick for that though...

Re: Sterling(beta) refuses to work at all after 7 builds.. H
Coke can models are pretty weak, both in terms of power output and physical strength. There are no electric motors in any of my models. To be honest, I did wonder if there were motors in these engines when I first started trying to build these engines ( I failed to get my first few to run). If you w...

Re: Does the Balloon need to travel same distance as displac
The balloons in my models usually only move about 5 - 10 mm total stroke. The displacer usually 28 - 35 mm stroke. These are coke can models.

It's hard to help without any pictures of information :) But it's probably leaking too much air somewhere.

Re: Glass and graphite piston sets
When I last used one of those airpots, I just stuck a piece of tape over the hole in the piston. Worked well, the ball joint
that's supplied with the piston is superb, no need to fashion any other arrangement.

Re: Big Stirling Engine
When they first started selling these I'm sure they were claiming 1KW from the model above....
I'd say their power claims are questionable at best, but it does look like a nice engine if it runs and nothing else.
