Re: Stirling piston rings
jpigg55, I've never heard of Clupet rings before. Now that I've seen them, I don't know why they aren't more common! Thanks. Glad you found them of interest. I stumbled on them when considering making a steam engine, but couldn't find any satisfactory info on making a boiler for it. I think the rea...

Something I'm wanting to try is High-Temperature Graphite-Filled 841 Bearing Bronze (https://www.mcmaster.com/products/metal ... onze-rods/) machined into Clupet piston rings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80jzsNM6olE).

Re: Seal-less Gamma, bellows, magnetically coupled displacer, rotary
Your first video link is a must see for anyone pondering dwell schemes. This is something I've been looking into. What's shown is a Scotch Yoke mechanism with dwell at both ends. There's also a version with dwell at one end. What I've been looking for is if there's a formula that gives the throw an...

Stirling engine speed/accelleration control
Have there been any recent methods developed for practical speed and acceleration of Stirling engines ? So far the only methods I've found are restricting the gas flow between the hot cylinder and the power piston in Beta & Gamma type engines and a proposed idea of controlling the speed of the d...

Lyle Peterson (MrPete222/Tubalcain of YouTube) has a 6 part series of his 1903 Essex engine here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... DVz6RqaHms

What's missing in your calculations is heat transfer rate. Air has a poor heat transfer rate and the faster the engine RPM, the less time for transfer.
Theoretically, the slower the RPM, the higher the power and efficiency should be as the time for heat/energy to be transferred would be.

Re: Alpha stirling engine working principle
edit: my last sentence should end...the force on identical alpha pistons is not [equal] due to crankpin location... The combination of factors, to me, is where it gets tough to wrap ones head around. Each component is fairly easy, but the combination starts to muddy things up. From just the piston ...

Alpha stirling engine working principle
Forgive me if this is a repeat. I used the "Search" function, but always got the same "too common term" results. I worked for 36 years in the nuclear energy field with 6 years in the US Navy and 30 years in commercial nuclear power plants as a mechanic and operator, thus I have a...

Hello, new member here posting to prevent deletion.
I've become very interested in Alpha type stirling engines and hope to learn from expertise here.
