Re: Crazy Rotary Stirling Ideas

Awesome! my first thought was to split the displacer into two 'half engines' and put the power pistons between the two, right there in the middle of the displacer. The power pistons would really be 'power rockers' and would have a ratcheting mechanisms that would transfer the pressure difference to ...

Re: Crazy Rotary Stirling Ideas

Imagine the cross section of the engine with the cylindrical displacer moving clockwise. We would have 4 equal arc sections making up the full circle of the outside of the engine. Starting at the top, we have the hot side heat exchange area, then the 'boiler' side of the regenerator, then cold, then...

Re: Crazy Rotary Stirling Ideas

My thoughts: 1) regenerator: A loop heat pipe using water as the heat pipe fluid (possibly some glycol to avoid freezing), moving heat from the 1/4 of the rotation after the hot side, and move it to the 1/4 of rotation after the cold side. 2) heat exchanger: using a cylindrical void in the rotating ...

Re: removing the achilles heal of stirling motors

Some of the description of this engine reminds me of this one:

Re: Tesla's Heat Engine

Ordinary glass I don't think will transmit infrared light. It is possible to get such glass. The articles about it say that it needs to have "direct exposure to the sky. Apparently it would not work inside a building but only on the roof. Putting it inside anything to thermally isolate it coul...

Re: How do i make a linkage like this:

how about a universal joint, like the kind used for a ratcheting socket wrench?

Re: Tesla's Heat Engine

Hmmm... I wouldn't believe anything I couldn't get my own hands on. That said, I've been following something called "photonic radiant cooling" which has applications in air conditioning. It is a method of making a surface 'see' space by matching the frequency of the atmosphere or some such...

Re: Tesla's Heat Engine

I had a notebook here somewhere that I sketched out a seasonal storage method using phase change materials of different temperatures, coupled with a heat driven chemical heat pump (calcium chloride type). The thought of it was to boost the storage and utilization of the warmth and 'coolth' by using ...

Re: Tesla's Heat Engine

My first instinct is in line with yours. That we are discussing an impossible perpetual motion machine. But it sparks some ideas. Like possibly using seasonal temperature swings to power this device using liquified air. Like on the coldest nights of the winter, we liquify air using stored thermal en...

Re: Crazy Rotary Stirling Ideas

Ian, this video is one of a series of an attempt at a rotary stirling displacer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZhBB8U7Tbc

He got it working, but just barely enough to overcome friction. No usable power. I'm thinking the lack of regenerator is the biggest culprit. Any thoughts?

Re: Two pieces LTD displacer

So would the power piston be the double acting variety residing in a cylinder coupled to both engines?

Do you intend this to be two engines coupled mechanically with a rocker?

Crazy Rotary Stirling Ideas

Much like the engine concept itself, I've had many ideas going round and round in my head about the rotary displacer stirling engine concept. First, I'm looking for validation in my thinking that the main issue rotary displacer stirling engines face is the lack of feasible regenerator. Without a rec...

Re: "Hi...We are new here!" First posts here (or anywhere is OK)

New here. I am an engineer with a strong interest in heat engines. My particular interests are non conventional, untried concepts... hence none of my attempts have worked to date. I'm hoping to change that with the collective knowledge of this group!
