Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

Hello all! Hello Triangle! Sorry it's been soo long, I haven't played with this engine since my last post, I bought a YJ jeep wrangler and those projects took most of my winter to complete. Here is my most recent work on the Stirling. Designed this and made it on my newest CNC machine. It will be a ...

Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

Triangle, it was the Styrofoam from the dollar store that comes in sheets 1/4inch thick with paper glued to each side. I just peeled the paper off and cut them out with a box knife, stuck them together with spray adhesive and cleaned it up a bit on a sanding wheel. power piston is 2 part epoxy mixed...

Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

***New photos added to original post*** @triangle.Stirling My furnace is already starting to crack here and there :( I have seen your electric furnace on some of your you-tube videos, I'm jealous :D How much did you end up buying it for? Thank you for the flywheel compliments! I did work really hard...

Here's an update on the progress I made over the week.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mKWvn00njU Shorted the stroke on the displacer piston (followed advise above) Made new brass linkage, plumbing silver solder is working well! Experimented with several different displacers, tried to see if oasis...

Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

Thanks for the compliment Triangle.Stirling! Yes that is a small slightly beefed up version of the charcoal DIY forge I built following a tutorial from the"King of Random" on YouTube, but mine uses propane :D The knock in my engine, I like it :) Your right! it's the displacer hitting the b...

Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

Looks like no one sells brass in Kitsap county, I'm stuck with what I can buy at the hardware store plumbing section or online. Do you feel like your suggestion (brass piston and cast iron cylinder wall) is comparable to a graphite piston with a glass cylinder wall? Would I lube it with a light oil?...

Re: My First Walking Beam Stirling engine build with pictures

Thank you for the feed back Ian S C, That's a good idea, I would like to do something different with my power piston and add a cylinder sleeve. I'm thinking I can use the existing copper tube as a place holder for a replaceable piston sleeve. I'll give the welding shop a call today and see if they h...

Re: "Hi...We are new here!" First posts here (or anywhere is OK)

Hi everyone, my name is Blythe and I live a ferry ride from Seattle. I am new to this forum and figured I would introduce myself. I built my first Stirling about 5 years ago, and love to tinker in my shop every night to see what I can build. I have made around 12 stirlings so far, and am currently b...
