Re: High powered Stirling going into production
Is a shaft output version to be available? Several people in the UK Stirling engine society have been looking at the SE as an alternative power unit for small river boats (E.g.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO1mcOu3zBQ). Electric launches are quite popular due to their practically silent operation, ...

Re: Thermoacoustic engine restrictors
While there are thermoacoustic analogues of the Stirling engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoacoustics I have yet to be convinced that there is any acoustic resonance basis to the operation of the single piston engines which often carry that title. I have no idea what 'lamina' is supposed to m...

Re: Rhombic drive vs. My "L" yoke drive
Yes, not so good in some ways though unequal strokes is not necessarily a problem. I started with all the lengths equal for simplicity - more difficult to make changes when you are cutting metal rather than using a computer! Then, as is usual for me, once I had demonstrated it 'sort of' worked, I mo...

Re: Rhombic drive vs. My "L" yoke drive
Not quite a CAD animation I'm afraid, but here is a variation that I mocked up a few years ago which gives straight line motion at one of the drive points in the manner of a half beam or 'grasshopper' steam engine.

This design originated in the 1950's with model company Davies Charlton based on the isle of Man.

Same mechanism as Allan Organ's hairdryer engine.

Re: High powered Stirling going into production
This is exciting news indeed, been some time since a 'serious' Stirling engine project looked anywhere near market ready! Will there be an opportunity to buy just the bare engine for the tinkerers amongst us?

Re: Big Stirling Engine
Well I can vouch for at least one of those feedback comments because it was mine!
As I said, overall I am vey pleased with the engine - but I did go in with open eyes, knowing what to expect in terms of power rather than accepting the sellers claims at face value.

Just for interest, here are a few pictures comparing the Hyporex 'Big Stirling Engine' with an original Ky-Ko motor.

Re: Hyporex engine
I applaud anyone attempting to develop a commercially viable Stirling / hot air engine but unrealistic claims and worse, unrealistic expectations, will not help you to succeed where so many others have failed. Look at the benchmark Philips MP1002CA - it's not the engineering gem it is just because P...

Hyporex engine
Looks like a representative of Hyporex has joined the forum so perhaps we will get some more information on these interesting engines. I just rcvd the following PM, presumably in response to my comment on power output in the 'big stirling engine' thread (which curiously seems to be unavailable for v...
