I would suggest you look at something like the SunPulse design. Here is a review someone posted. http://www.solarheatengines.com/2012/01 ... se-engine/
If you turn this from a single to an opposed twin you could have a lightweight and usable Stirling.

Re: Fully Enclosed Dual Action Design Idea
I have been working on a similar idea, but my first iteration will not be enclosed. I am making a twin cylinder arrangement with twin walking beam arms. One for the power and another for the displacer. This should be fine for a proof of concept, but I am ultimately leaning towards a boxer arrangemen...

Re: Opposed Cylinder stirling
I also think there is a purpose for doing an opposed cylinder Gamma as that would allow pressurization balance and need less mass in flywheel.

Re: Large LTD Stirling for CHP
My theory is that a power producing alpha style Stirling engine can be made from parts found at any decent home supply store: Home Depot, Loews, etc. The one missing piece for a usable engine is a high temp oil pump as without it you are force to use gravity and some rather scary hot liquid transfer...

Re: DIY rubber bellow as power piston
The silicon rolling sock seal is the path I'd like to take. The simplest solution in to long run would be just to buy them, as Alibaba lists a dozen manufacturers that will build to order. I've never ordered from Alibaba and my guess is that the diaphragms are probably designed for truck suspensions...

Re: Alpha Stirling Engine Project
I'm a nube, but I think I've developed some book knowledge, so let me try... Tough to get a sense of scale, but you are looking for a volumetric change relatively similar to the absolute temperature change. http://www.solarheatengines.com/2009/11/13/stirling-engine-simulator-guide/ So depending on h...

"I have far less money than sunshine", well that is both a good and a bad thing. Lots of money would be nice, but constraints lead to originality. I am constrained by both time and money. I'm sorry if I was off-putting with my comments, but I was hoping to start a dialog. Chances are we ar...

"I can't see much point in Stirling engines trying to compete with modern photovoltaics". This is a strange statement as modern Stirlings far exceed modern photovoltaics. PVs range up to 15-20%, but Stirlings reach 40% and hold the record for most efficient power conversion. http://www.the...

Large LTD Stirling for CHP
Most of the work I have seen on Stirling Engines is directed toward small high pressure HTD Stirlings. I understand because HTD means more efficiency due to increased possible Carnot efficiency, but unless the heat source is self contained, HTD leads to inefficiencies as any heat below the chosen te...

Re: "Hi" We are new here!
I'm new here and I'm a real person too. I'm interested in putting a 100W-1000W Stirling engine on a Rocket Mass heater, probably pressurized with compressed air and probably all built inside a compressed air tank to generate electricity and make hot water. My degree is in Physics, and I used to run ...
