Metal Injection Moulding
Do you think Metal Injection Moulding can help in manufacturing complex heat transfer areas to allow higher heat transfer in stirling engine? I found this web article Stainless Steel Injection Moulding , and I am thinking this could ease production of stirling engine... This technology is still new ...

HHO, woodgas, OTTO alternative
Hi everybody, I know this is stirlingengine forum but since I know here are some quite knowledgeable guys, I want to brainstorm an idea that I have on my mind for few weeks now. I appreciate any suggestion in style of constructive comments... The idea comes from using woodgas in classical otto motor...

Re: Geometry of pancake medium temperature stirling
I also thought of corrugated foils... It would be very interesting project to see. what is your piston diameter? What stirling type you are building?

Re: Geometry of pancake medium temperature stirling
In my stirling engine (diameter 250mm) I used 3.5 mm gap and it worked OK. Check slotted heat exchanger to maximize heat area. Can you post some pictures?

Re: Geometry of pancake medium temperature stirling
Gap in displacer should be best compromise - on one side you want big heat transfer so small gap would be best but on the other hand if you have too small gap you have big pressure drop and therefore you loose power.

Re: sinple, compact linear to rotary
http://www.mekanizmalar.com/rack_and_pinion_reciprocate.html I see one problem - this will give you non sinusoidal motion - and with heavy displacer (when it needs to reverse direction) it would cause huge forces. If you think a little bit - whole displacer mass should change direction in almost no ...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
Ian, yes cooling would be an issue - but I am not there yet. Couldn't think any better than placing ceramic bearing near the displacer middle - probably 2 of them. Looks like crank mechanism is swinging displacer and for such long displacer already small angles can cause big friction. the issues her...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
Hi everybody, After brazing stainless steel lamelas and adding ss regenerator into cylinder, there has been quite an improvement in engine operation - although I still didn't measure power output. Still there is not water cooling added... Still place for improvement you can hear sound of banging dis...

Great library - would it be possible to use it to solve navier stokes equations and transient cases in fluid dynamics?

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
GeofV thanks for comment - you are right regarding heat transfer. Maybe I could still improve heat transfer using thermo nickel paste (for example: http://www.tedpella.com/technote_html/16059,16059-10%20TN.pdf . Although it's maximum reach is "only" 538 °C - I mean what could go wrong if I...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
Zhivko How do you intend to join the fins to the outer casing of the heater? if they are not welded to the case, there will be very little heat transfer. GeoffV If I remember your chart correctly, the heat transfer is quite steep if gap is under 0.1mm. I don't think I have much less than 0.1mm sinc...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
Made some progress, if somebody is interested - I am doing my best to implement so called "low cost slotted heat exchangers". The inner pipe of exchanger came to have "only" 0,5mm difference in roundness. After grinding I expect to be even lower. Here are some pictures: New displ...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
I plan to add water cooling later as soon as it would be obvious that bottom part is overheating. I think I am ready for next iteration. If somebody knows what material should I put for regenerator - the SE should operate from 80-400degC. Should it be fine steel wool, or more this like SS mesh? If y...

Yes maybe I got this feeling because of camera that recorded video couldn't capture enough frames in time unit...
