Re: what cycle does this engine use?
Bladeattila I found a few things that might help you. The first is John Ericsson's British patent number.(6409/1833 ) I believe with that ,you should be able to get the full patent with plans. The second is a patent for an Ericsson cycle engine with a lot of details. http://www.google.com/patents/US...

Re: 300 Watt, Large LTD Stirling engine!
I am having problems understanding the one way piston rings on the power piston. They say it raises the minimum internal pressure. If you use rings on the power piston ,don't they just make a tighter seal ?

Re: 3-cylinder Gamma - project
I love that diaphragm. I really like Approtechie engines. One thing that bothered me on his 3 piston engine was the cylinders are connected with plastic hose. I can just see quite a bit of loss, by the hose flexing. I think copper tubing would be better. Please post pics or a video when you finish. ...

Pyroevil That was truly an amazing post. I went through several emotions. First off I always wanted a small kiln, but just didn't want to dole out the money .I saw your post ,my first though was fantastic microwave kiln. Then I saw the guy with the fancy expensive microwave, I was let down. Then the...

Re: DIY Oil Drum Stirling Engine (a newbi question!)
Look up Approtechie, on You tube. His stirling engines are quite simple and powerful for what they are. It might be a good starting point . Sometimes it isn't how much electricity you make but how you store it when you do need it.

Re: 0Consultants/Advisors for large scale LTD Stirling Engin
If you really want to produce some electricity is an LTD your best choice ? They are so massive for the out put they produce. Wouldn't it be better to put a little more into your solar collector and generate some higher temps. Maybe use a pressurized stirling engine.

Welcome to the forum.
Very nice little engine. What did you make the pistons out of ? What do you think the RPM is?

Re: Why are their no big LTD Stirling Engines
I wonder what the largest LTD is ? I think I have seen a couple larger than Vanoose's posts. I believe it was at a fair or something. I can't seem to find it though. Someone thought it was Alien technology because they didn't see a heat source or fuel tank. It was unfocused, solar powered. Just a bl...

Re: DIY rubber bellow as power piston
Soeren,
I was really into using bellows, but there seemed to be one big drawback. After some use the plastic (rubber ) gets hot and looses it elastic nature. I wonder if there is a plastic, easy to use, that doesn't get heat fatigue ? Your way of making the bellows is great.

Re: Why are their no big LTD Stirling Engines
What determines an LTD ? How large a temp. difference can you have ? I wonder if they use a regenerator on those large ones. I saw a small LTD . He stated he made a hole in the styrofoam displacer and added a few layers of brass screen, for a regenerator. He said it made a big difference. Almost all...

Bladeattila,
Why would you want to turn the whole engine ? Why not have connecting rods turn a flywheel in the center ?

John Hill,
There was one on U-tube, I remembered. But as I reviewed it, it didn't look practical. He had an external stirling engine with it's own heat source. driven by a belt.

Re: microwave induction stirling
Sorry, I meant Bumpkin I realized that you weren't that involved in the idea ! Ian SC, I get the jest of how it works now. Heck ya , Ian ! That is definitely the way to go. It is more efficient than a regular element. It loose only a small amount of heat to the non metallic cylinder and most of the ...

Re: microwave induction stirling
Ian SC, I've had those ranges before. I always thought it was just like any other electric stove but with a disk of pyrex glass on top of the element. Is there something unique to those stoves ? theropod, No , I realized it was just a flicker on your part ! I was just trying to gin up discussion on ...

Re: microwave induction stirling
Bumpkin, Electrical heat might be expensive for most application but there are circumstances where an open flame would impractical. You have toxic exhaust to deal with . They use electric chain saws for underwater work. You don't need an extra air line or oxygen tank. I don't know about in general b...
