Re: varible phasing
I was thinking about this solution this is first two elements of Furirer row for "right angle" sine function on mechanical way. http://imageshack.us/a/img818/4769/yto.gif in this solution displacer is in average 20% higher from center in first 180° and same thing but opposite direction in ...

Re: varible phasing
all valve gears on steam engines work on way that change phase angle and stroke of valve relative to piston. maybe some of simple valve gears can be easy modified to change phase angle with small variation in stroke. I was thinking about changing power and direction of gamma engine by changing strok...

If someone is interested.. I am putting 3D model of engine in pdf (you can turn and zoom engine) but must be downloaded: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wwmvszd56nm591c/stirling%202013.PDF and here few pictures of engine in progress: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xnfcq3cdf8gxt5s/20130601_161939.jpg https://ww...

Re: new engine advices before is too late :)
here is image on forum gallery with smaller resolution [album]114[/album] I draw this drawing from parts so i forget to "put" connecting hole. Piston is not too lose without piston ring. It can not drop under its own weight when I close cylinder, but I have cast iron if i change my mind. S...

new engine advices before is too late :)
My new engine, please comment http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/166/motor13.jpg Is it aluminum cooler to long? is it displacer bushing short? dimension ratios ok ? (it is not exact I am using available parts) cylinder and piston are shock absorber, displacer is made of stainless steel pipe (upper c...

Re: 2-cylinder Gamma engines
Hi Criske! I think you should avoid worm reducer, it consumes lots of power (efficiency about 30%) I know that is simpler with worm because one stage can have reduction ratio about 1:100 But spur gears are much more efficient. Try with old oven they have small gear motor with gear ratio about 250 (f...

Re: hmm, does this make sense?
I was checking your post because something was suspicious to me water expanded 160 cc's, so J/cc = 235.563/160 = 1.472 Joules/cc Air was .378 joules/cc, so water is ~3.9 times less efficient. surprise surprise So according to [ http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/saturated-steam-properties-d_457.html ...

Re: 1000hp Stirling?
All stirling engines on submarines are not heated by reactors, they are used on small AIR INDEPENDENT PROPULSION submarines and they are fueled by fuel oil and oxygen under water.
Gotland class submarine is biggest of that type but I am not sure.

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
Zhivko Just so you are not misled by guessing, the dimensions of Peter Lynn's model 14 engine are nothing like those suggested by Ante! I'm not prepared to divulge the dimensions as they may have commercial implicatons but I can tell you the bore is much smaller. GeoffV Zhivko asked me why 14 engin...

Re: Big Beta Stirling 1kw, 100degC to 400degC
my opinion is that dimensions of Peter Lynn engine is something like this in attachment:
D 250mm, stroke cylinder 50mm, stroke displacer 90mm.
If that helps you..
