Re: design help and build log
Ah mig, its just handy for quick sticks :) I hate it, bit its so quick and easy, takes almost no skill... tig is my nemesis, we have a love hate relationship... Was playing with some carbon fibre last week, happened to knock out the remains of the cup... having a ridiculous thought... that was one h...

Re: design help and build log
Somewhere in between, get fragile stringy bits, not powder, not the usual steel swarf either...(Sprinkler as in fire protection, not as in watering your lawn). Not sure... I have a little metal working lathe, and sherline, I'm more an arc welder, but I do have mig/tig... oxy/acy of course. Yeah have...

Re: design help and build log
Yup, partly why I'm shooting for 500w - 516cc total displacement... The cast pipe confuses me, it looks sand cast, but it has a ridge the whole length, looks a lot like the hrew tube I usually work with... but it came from a sprinkler tech friend, he swears its cast... Skate bearings are funny - som...

design help and build log
happy new year! Ok, I've been away... playing with the plans, kits and ideas learned here... getting my basic understanding of Stirling design... But now its time to move forward, time to sh-t or get off the pot so to speak... means its time to put this knowledge to use... The project goal - 500w ou...

Re: Ways to increase thermal conductivity of working gas.
Ionizing could be easily done, I can find small car / house ionizers in the dollar stores - install in the regenerator, add power; done like dinner.

Re: Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
Sometimes a bucket of water isn't appropriate... Really we're talking a pressurized loop of tubing with a resevoir in it... Not a huge refrigeration system... ubiquitous rv fridge 'buisness end' : http://chillz.com/RV_Refridgerator_Cooling_Unit-RV_Refrigerator_Cooling_Unit__red.jpg A bucket of water...

Re: planning fro large solar gamma stirling engine
Bill Gross got unnecessarily complicated... Yes you can use his petal system... But a 4x8 solar water heater is going to get you the same or better results... Part of what's drawn me here was looking for a way to turn a planned passive solar water heater system into a full on active system solar wat...

Re: Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
What can google translate do?

Re: Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
That's beyond my knowledge, I know my rv fridge freezes the whole fridge up solid if I crank it up (3cuft)... The aussie designed solar fridges we're planning to buy (3 way, 12v, solar heater, LPG) are supposed to be way more advanced than the RV fridges and they're full size fridges; designed to ru...

Re: Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
ammonia absorption systems have no compressor... Sealed system, heat one end, get cold out the other... (RV fridges are the most common variation) Also refered to as an einstein fridge, amongst many other names... good explanation: But there is a second type of ammonia refrigerator that makes use of...

Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
G'day all, Wanted to bounce something off the experts... Came to mind while talking to an aussie company who sells solar refridgerators; while reading about the Vtwin compressor retrofits... Would it not be useful to run an ammonia absorption coil on a sterling engine? Same principles as the sterlin...

Re: "Hi" We are new here!
 FNG Here, jack of all trades, master of none.. Well maybe a couple... Found you guys looking for info on a sterling I saw on discovery channel, doing the leg work for an off grid home... Well the homes been easy - it's my garage that's the headache... Welders create headaches, and I'm not ...
