Re: 14.5cm3 Stirling engine pressurized and water-cooled
Very impressive engine especially in regards to the truly extreme pressure ratio. A 50+ psi pressure difference in an engine that is only pressurized to a P min of about 4 bar is exceptionally high for any en...

Re: Problem with drafts and saving PLEASE HELP
The engine in question has already been posted about on this very forum by its builder and has mostly been ignored. The engine is an air filled, pressurized 90 degree Vee twin alpha of 14.5 cc displacement. It is very like the old rider engines in concept having a cold cap just like the hot cap, but...

Problem with drafts and saving PLEASE HELP
I wrote a long ( a couple paragraphs) response to a post, clicked "save draft" and clicked "preview" When I went to post I got a "too few characters" error and my post was gone. I went into my control panel and went to draft manager the file was there but it was BLANK e...

Open letter to the ebay seller of the improved fan engine
According to your ebay posts your small unpressurized engine is able to produce 750 watts at 800 rpm I have reason to believe this claim is inaccurate. It all boils down to basic thermodynamics and gas laws. lets start with the facts: PV=NkT, and as such PV is directly proportional to T, one litre o...

Re: New Stirling Engine Project India
There seems to be some confusion regarding which engine is being built. The st05g is a 500 watt gamma type engine designed and at one point sold as a casting kit by Dieter Viebach of Kolbermoor, Germany. It is 15 % efficient iirc (haven't read about it in a couple years) with a non recuperative burn...

source for large ss cups and concept for large alpha engine
After a good bit of searching I found a source that sells a useful straight sided stainless steel (unsure if deep pressed or lathe spun) in a reasonably large size for a good price. The thing in question is a commercial kitchen spice dredge, specifically the Winco 22 ounce no handle model drg22h. it...

When I go to forums and click on links I get the following: " You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum." Not when I try to post, I'm not even being allowed to read it. Is this the way it is supposed to be, it has been like this for weeks for me, in fact I h...

Re: a possible diamond in the rough: a powerful engine(almos
I thought it looked larger than 50 mm bore in the video Also: there is something wrong with a 70 cc engine that only produces 12 to 14 watts; a properly designed flame heated engine will produce over a watt per cc of power piston displacement. The phillips 62.3 cc generator produced 180 to 200 watts...

a possible diamond in the rough: a powerful engine(almost)
I have posted in a prior thread about a gamma engine design from 1904 with a very high torque for its displacement, and mentioned Bill Gross' Sunflower solar engine as a good starting point for developing a simple useful engine. I believe I have found an example of just such an engine, or at least s...

Re: The new member with first engine
Welcome aboard Loccd.. your engine overall looks well made, and for the most part well designed. However your engine as it is will not run. This is because there is too much friction generated by the O rings. I would make a new power piston without rings, make it a running fit, and cut oil control g...

Re: planning fro large solar gamma stirling engine
I think someone has figured this out already. Namely Bill Gross from Idealabs. His team built a low pressure or unpressurized (presumably) gamma engine with plain heat exchangers that produced 250 watts continuous electric output, which would likely imply at least a 500 watt mechanical output engine...

Re: found: plans and research for 100W solar alpha stirling
just read some of their papers, the 98 watt output was supposed to be at 200 rpm and was the schmidt ideal, not actual. the 42 percent efficiency claim was probably derived from the 52 percent claimed carnot ideal, minus the expected friction losses. both must have assumed a higher temperature diffe...

Re: 70 cc stirling drives buggy.
math error, decimal error, or typo: displacement eqn. is identical to volume of a cylinder, the bore being the diameter and the stroke being the length. ((bore/2)^2)*pi*stroke = ((10.5cm/2)^2)*3.14*7cm = 605.8 cubic centimeters = displacement of engine in question look at the size of it, it looks a ...

Andy Ross is alive and presumably well. He has a youtube account: aross345 . He lives in Ohio and is still active in engine building.
