Re: Oddball theoretical question - ammonia absorption
Why use an ammonia absorbtion cooler to run a Stirling engine, when you can just use a gas expansion engine, e.g. "steam engine", in place of the gas expansion valve in the cooler line?

Venting isn't an issue, if you feel you should vent it, go ahead.
There have been more than one Stirling engine made with a wire mesh spool or stacks of wire mesh washers being used as a displacer piston, that should answer your question in itself.ph

Re: Stirling Engine Thesis
Yes, the Phillips Stirling engine was pressurized, had its own pump built in. No thesis on Stirling engines is worth dick if you aren't referencing from "Stirling Engine Design Manual, 2nd Ed." by William Martini. There are copies in PDF format on the web, free, as the book was commissione...

Re: Heat exchanger design
Start by getting a copy of "Stirling Engine Design Manual, 2nd Ed." by William Martini. This is available on the net free, NASA was the agency that commissioned the book.
IIRC, Allan Organ has a book referencing regenerators that is floating about on the web in PDF format
Good luck, Murph

Re: Building a Solar powered Stirling engine - Where to start?
Martin Wyss had a rather nice unit using a automotive CV boot as the piston, rather ingenious!

Re: Something I would Love to see
You would have to use Schlieren photography to see the gas flow inside the engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schlieren_photography Anything that you can see, chalk, smoke, whatever--would act as an abrasive and impede the engine's gas flow and operation, and would settle out when the engine was n...

Re: Stirling Engines of Daniel Lyonett
Nice website, and nice plans for his ASAP engine, except for one problem: there is no dimention for the crank throw as best as I can see.
